The Official Guide to Golf in Texas
LAKE CHARLES, La. — Building on previous casino-fueled successes in Mississippi and Louisiana, the PGA Tour announced a new 2020 Korn Ferry Tournament for the Golden Nugget Resort, the Lake Charles Championship, March 23-29, 2020.
It will be the first PGA Tour in this Southwestern Louisiana city, but tour officials think it will follow a successful Korn Ferry event in Lafayette, LA and a Champions Tour tournament near the Beau Rivage Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi.
“This is where we shine in cities this size where we have full community buy in and commitment,” said Alex Miller, the first female commissioner of the Korn Kerry tour.
“It’s an easy trip from Lafayette for the Korn Ferry Tour guys and we’re very successful in Biloxi. The economy is good in this area so we think it will be successful,” said Alan Fish, Senior Business Director for the PGA Tour.
The 156-player will play for a total purse of $600,000 at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget, adjacent to the massive casino complex. Bruno Sports will operate the tournament which has a five-year contract.
